Art Cars
Looking back over Emily Duffy's bra ball website, I found she's done art cars! I've wanted to do an art car every since we saw a lot of them in Houston at a sculptors' conference. Most memoriable to me were the Shark Car and a double-decker bus that kept showing up at art events.
Maybe I could make a Quilted Art Car. However art cars usually are pretty durable, able to withstand driving on highways, but I did once hear of a guy who put real plants all over his with a watering system too. I'm wondering if I could make a big quilted cover that could come on and off. I guess it could be washable. I probably still wouldn't want to take it on the highway though.

I've seen several art cars on the freeway here in the bay area. I understand that there is an "altered car" club here.
Two of the cars were covered with Great Stuff (the expanding foam) and then carved. Oddly enough they were the same vehicle underneath (a large boxy foreign van, but I forget the brand now). One was carved, and painted as a giant frog. The headlights were the eyes. It was fasciniting.
There is also the car where the guy collected the clear plastic garbage left on one beach for one summer, then glued it to his car. Very textural. And those clear plastics turn an interesting translucent tan as they age.
Yep. in your spare time (yeah, right!) I think you and your hubby may need to create an art car.
There was a quilted car cover that made the quilt show circuit about three years ago. It was patchwork and quilted and fitted a Ford Taurus exactly. I was initially impressed but lost interest after the fourth show it was in.
It was made by a Florida woman with way too much time on her hands.
I wonder what you do with a quilted car slipcover?
well if they can make a quilted horse:

(scroll down) why not a quilted car (Grin)
what about painting the quilting onto it? or covering the entire project with some clear high gloss coating?? (get a body shop to spray it for you?)
grin! Hugs! karla (a recent reader)
