Illustration Friday - Metropolitan

Haven't participated in Illustration Friday in a while, but I promised myself that I would do my next one in fabric (not drawing.) So here it is: I free-cut the fabric, and improvisationally pieced and fused. No pattern! Don't know if I'll quilt it, but it would be fun to define the cables on the bridges in thread. It's a nice size, 44" by 34".

I don't know if it might look ominous to other people, but my thoughts as I made it were how I love going to other cities and the excitement I feel when driving towards big buildings downtown after dark.

I love that feeling, the bright lights and excitement. The contrast in patterns in really nice and the yellow works well against the monochromatic blues.

Beautiful! And not ominous at all. It makes me think about how a city never sleeps. I love it!

Lovely, I really like the ripples on the water. The colour scheme is brilliant and exceptionally creative to boot.

Looks great, and the cables in threads would look even better. Guess that means you need to quilt it! >;)

I always love my work best before it is quilted and I wish I could just leave it that way, flat and perfect.

Some artists do, but then they have to frame it to hang it, and that is worse than having to quilt it. So I guess quilting must be done.

It's dark and mysterious and intriguing to me. Quilt it already!

I agree with Mrs. Mel. Sometimes quilting is not what you really want. Some minimal quilting would be great. I love the way the fabric works in the overall design.

I have that same feeling about cities at night. Great fabric choices and composition. I feel the same way about quilting, too - most recently with my self portrait. I finally did a diagonal grid over the whole piece.
