Illustration Friday: Cold

I was at such a party last night - a ritzy affair on the ninth floor of the New York City Athletic Club overlooking Central Park. It was an awards banquet to honor the lifetime achievements of sculptor Magdalena Abakanowicz, and I was feeling a little shabby wearing boots rather than the very pointy high heels that I saw all the other women wearing.
Standing around, nursing a glass of wine, trying to catch the eye of a couple of people I sort of know who seemed to be ignoring me completely. So I finally I look over to the side of the room, and recognize someone, so I go over and introduce myself...to ROBIN WILLIAMS!
Not that I said anything profound, but he shook my hand and I asked him about a triathlon I heard he was in and tell him that I do humorous art quilts and he said "cool." How amazing the evening felt after that, and I'm still on CLOUD NINE!

How EXCITING that you got to meet Robin Williams!!! Good for you...and your illustrations are always so fun and colorful. And by the way - your art quilts ARE cool!! Now you have a great story for your next party...
Well the party doesn't sound very fun, but I love the illustration. And cool about getting to meet Robin Williams!
Love the illustration. Cool that you met Robin Williams!
Was he wearing boots, too? He was probably feeling like you did, too. I've heard he is very shy. Just saw him in House of D... good movie. I wish I had been at that party... we could have had a wonderful time chatting away.
Oh, Pam...you are sooooooo lucky. I absolutely love Magdelena's work. In college we did treks to see her exhibits. Did you get to talk to her?
Plus, I'm ultra proud of you for introducing yourself to someone at a party. It's always a good plan to move yourself a little bit out of your comfort zone once and a while. Yeah for you.
You can feel the chill in the air! Although meeting Robin Williams would warm things up for me...
Pam, did you invite him to your website and blog? hehehehe...i would have been soooo tempted. but that would have made my evening inspite of the cold affair.
Actually yes, I gave him my new business card (which has gotten some laughs lately) and told him to go to my website. I thought if I didn't, I would always regret it, but after doing it I felt good about it. I wasn't pushy, just polite, and he said thanks!
Let me first say this illustration is a hoot! Of course the pay off to a less than pointed evening was to be able to chat with Robin Williams. I find him such a clever and sensitive person (of course this analysis is only by what I have read and seen of his interviews), and one man I would really love to sit and get to know personally. I don't think of him so much as a movie star but a person who brings so much joy and caring to others. Would this gift be so noticed if he weren't famous? I think he was given the celebrity vessel as a means to share his gift.
Love the illo! I'm always nervous at things like that at first too. How cool that you met Robin Williams and he was nice.
